The Postwar Oldsmobile VIN Decoder 1946-1997

Vehicle Identification Number is a serial number assigned by the manufacturer to a vehicle. Each VIN is unique and gives considerable information about the vehicle, including country of origin, manufacturer, and model year. Prior to 1981 there was no accepted standard for these numbers, so different manufacturers used different formats.

VIN can usually be found on the dashboard of the driver's side, visible through the windshield or on the left front door hinge pillar.
